Biosphere Reserve

Gran Canaria is a World Biosphere Reserve
The Nature of Gran Canaria lives giving joy to its inhabitants for hundreds of years. The first joy is given by the weather that is enjoyed here all year. A good time that makes life friendly and quiet. Although it is not only good weather that we talk about when we say that Nature has been kind to Gran Canaria.
Gran Canaria is a miniature continent, with a sample of very unusual landscapes, in the middle of an enormously diverse archipelago. That is why Unesco decided to grant the island the Biosphere Reserve seal. To actively support the conservation of the pieces of this puzzle of natural scenarios, a different and very particular microworld. Almost half of the geographic space of Gran Canaria has been included in the Reserve, covering six rural population centers, linked to traditional activities.
The island is a theme park of the strange and magical flora of Macaronesia. An open park that stores the treasure of plants and flowers that grew independently of the rest of the globe, with the seal of the Macaronesia region. A natural world that has been living at your leisure for centuries, among the changing reliefs of the island.
The character of Gran Canaria as an island of contrasts is repeated on the coast. From the coast and up to 300 meters above sea level, arid or hyper-arid environments dominate with cardons and tabaibas. The bottoms of the ravines and valleys are occupied by palm groves, tarahales and sauzales. The coast, with wide submerged deltas, underwater volcanic castings, large cliffs and interconnected sandbars.

All this natural juice produces the biodiversity richness where the loggerhead turtle, the bottlenose dolphin or the gray calderon move. Every day everyone gathers in a new representation. A thousand climates and a thousand natural species dancing together on an island Biosphere Reserve.
