Marquesa de Aruca

This viewpoint offers a complete vision of the Historic Center of the City of Arucas, which extends from the limits of the imposing Temple of San Juan Bautista (1909-1977), built in neo-Gothic style with the stone from the local quarries, up to the centenary Rum Factory Arehucas (1884), with its unmistakable fireplace. Other buildings such as the Town Hall (1875) and the Old Market (1882), located to the left of the Municipal Park, where the old House of Mayorazgo or Casa Gourié (1808), currently the Municipal Museum, and the building of the Heredad de Aguas de Arucas y Firgas (1909-1912), which houses the commonwealth of owners of the waters for irrigation.
The birth of the modern city as the origin of the Historic Center occurs during the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, so most of the buildings will correspond to these times. The new image of this architecture would become the reflection of the economic and social power of the bourgeoisie, as well as the aesthetic currents of the moment. These magnificent buildings and the unparalleled work of the local stonemason teachers were rewarded with the declaration of Historic Artistic Ensemble in 1976.

Slightly turning the view towards the coast, we can appreciate a panoramic view of the Marquise Garden, with the Romantic-style Mansion (1880), built by the first Marquis de Arucas, D. Ramón Madan y Uriondo. The former Hacienda del Buen Suceso of the 16th century (now a rural hotel), surrounded by a sea of banana trees, is striking.
